In-Person Event
On Saturday, 24 October, WillPower comes to BBC Broadcasting House in London for the first in a series of events focused on Power of Attorney abuse. The day follows on from the BBC series The Willpower Detectives and comes ahead of a new Radio 4 investigation into financial abuse of the elderly and vulnerable. We have focused the panel discussions and breakout sessions on the main areas raised by experts and the hundreds of listeners who’ve made contact with us.
*The event is free. Places will be limited but we hope to accommodate people online as well.

Why Us
Bringing Experience and Expertise Together
Power of Attorney abuse looks very different in every case we see but there are themes and shortfalls behind a lot of what happens. This is a chance to bring together lawyers, investigators, specialists and those who’ve lived through it, sharing perspectives, and raising areas for further investigation.
"A place to understand what may be happening, what could be done and how we can work together to improve the way the systems work"

Programme
Agenda
Saturday, October 24
This is a first step aimed at bringing experts in this field together, alongside listeners who have contacted us following the series. The panel discussions and breakout sessions will focus on aspects of Power of Attorney abuse, from spotting warning signs to navigating and improving the systems.
When it comes to the exploitation of the elderly and vulnerable a lot of what happens is hidden from public view. We hope that bringing people together will help build links so that things can be improved at different levels, from helping campaigners through to ensuring that fewer suffer longer term.
Attend
This inaugural event takes place on 24 October 2026 at BBC Broadcasting House. We are initially sharing invites to those who have helped with the series or who have made contact and got involved as a result of it. It will be a welcoming environment with people who have very different experiences.
